A rail-stop town, inland but not storm-proof
Haubstadt developed as a Gibson County rail-stop village after the Evansville and Terre Haute Railroad came through in the 1850s, incorporating in 1913. Like the rest of the Evansville area, Haubstadt sits within reach of the same regional storm systems that produced the deadly November 2005 tornado outbreak tracking through Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Spencer counties.
Older rail-era buildings and storm water
A town built up gradually from an 1855 rail platting to a 1913 incorporation has a building stock old enough that storm-driven water intrusion can find its way through aging rooflines and foundations that weren't built to modern drainage standards. Structural drying in Haubstadt has to account for that construction age.
